Neuropathological and Neuropsychiatric Determinants in HCV-Infected Patients

چکیده
Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a growing global health problem. HCV is a leading cause of chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and is associated with more than 30 extrahepatic manifestations (EHMs). Although cryoglobulinemia is the main pathological cause of neurologic EHMs, HCV viral replication in the brain itself must also be taken into consideration. The most significant neurological manifestations of HCV chronic infection are stroke, leukoencephalopathy, encephalomyelitis/myelitis, and peripheral neuropathy. The most significant neuropsychological manifestations of HCV infection are fatigue, depression, anxiety, and cognitive dysfunction. Antiviral HCV treatment should be the first-line treatment for managing mild-tomoderate vascular and neurologic symptoms; most of EHMs improve or even resolve if antiviral treatment starts on time.

Investigation of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) Class I and II Alleles and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) Genotypes in Patients Infected with HCV
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major public health problem with more than 130-180 million people infected worldwide. Several studies in different populations have reported the association of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes, and HCV viral load, and genotypes. The aim of this study was to investigate a possible association between HLA class I and II alleles in HCV-infected patients and heal...

BACKGROUND We aimed to determine the reliability and validity of a hepatitis symptom inventory and to identify predictors of hepatitis C (HCV) treatment initiation in a cohort of HIV-infected patients. METHODS Prospective clinic based study that enrolled patients referred for HCV therapy consideration. A hepatitis symptom inventory and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CE...

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in all degrees of injury severity mainly induces deviant cognitive, emotional and behavioral alterations that lead to their respective disorders. This brief overview strives to define the variables that determine the risk of occurrence of these disorders and to describe the common patterns of these disorders and their relevant neuropathogenetic mechanism(s). In addi...
متن کاملSero-Epidemiology of Hepatitis E Infections in patients with chronic Hepatitis C virus infection in Jahrom, Southern Iran
Background and Aims: Co-infection of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infected patients can develop and increase liver disease and hepatic complications in the world. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of HEV infection in patients suffering from chronic HCV infection. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study testing anti-HEV antibodies in serum...
متن کاملبررسی ارتباط پلی مورفیسم پروموترژن CCR5 در موقعیت -59353T/C با عفونت HCV
Background and purpose: Hepatitis C is an acute or chronic liver disease worldwide. Chemokines and chemokine receptors are involved in the effective immune response to hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection through the efficient recruitment and activation of inflammatory cells to infected liver. The CC-chemokine receptor (CCR) 5 is expressed on the several cells of the immune system and has been rep...
